Man Arrested In Deadly Macomb County Hit-And-Run Crash: Police

A 39-year-old woman, whose name was not released and was driving the Kia, was killed in the crash, police said.

CHESTERFIELD TOWNSHIP, MI — A man is facing charges in connection with a hit-and-run crash that left a woman dead last week in Chesterfield Township, according to police.

Matthew Reynolds, 39, of Lenox Township, was charged with failure to stop at the scene of an accident when at fault causing death, lying to a police officer and operating a vehicle without an ignition interlock device, according to police.

Reynolds was placed in jail with a $300,000 bond. His next court date is scheduled for Feb. 7. He faces up to 15 years in prison for the failure to stop charge and four years for lying to a police officer, if convicted.

Police said Reynolds was speeding in a Ford F250 pickup at 9:13 p.m. Friday when he slammed into a Kia sedan on Gratiot Avenue and 25 Mile Road.

Witnesses told officers they saw a man running from the pickup truck after the crash, police said.

"My office stands united in our commitment to holding accountable those who jeopardize the safety of others through reckless decisions," Macomb County Prosecutor Peter J. Lucido said.
