Relief at the Pump: Gas Prices Falling from Summer Peak

The cheapest gas in Chesterfield Township today is $3.81 per gallon, and prices are expected to continue falling in coming weeks.

The average price for a gallon of gas is slowly starting to fall after hitting a seasonal peak of $3.87 on Sept. 14, according to the Wall Street Journal.

AAA reports the national average price for a gallon of regular unleaded gasoline is $3.79 today; one year ago today, the national average was $3.50 per gallon.

“Retail gasoline prices have slowly been drifting lower since we hit a late summer peak of $3.8708 a gallon on Sept. 14,” Tom Kloza, chief oil analyst at the Oil Price Information Service (OPIS), told the Wall Street Journal. He added that gas prices could fall into the $3.70s this week.

In the Chesterfield Township area, the cheapest pump prices Thursday were at the BP at 23 Mile and Baker ($3.81), Marathon at Donner and 23 Mile ($3.92) and Meijer at 23 Mile and Gratiot ($3.92), according DetroitGasPrices.com.
