Hines’ Lines: Where Roads Meet Art
Opens Friday, September 5, 5–8 pm at the Northville Art House

The Northville Art House invites the community to celebrate the opening of Hines’ Lines, an exhibition inspired by the legacy of American road pioneer Edward N. Hines (1870–1938). Featuring 21 artists from Metro Detroit and around the country, this exhibition highlights 40 works of art reflecting innovations that shaped modern transportation and our everyday landscapes.
Best known for introducing the painted centerline that makes roads safer worldwide, Hines also championed the first full mile of paved concrete road on Woodward Avenue and helped establish the scenic parkway system along Hines Drive, which stretches through Wayne County from Dearborn to Northville. His vision transformed travel and community life in Michigan and beyond.
Artists were invited to respond to Hines’ contributions in two categories: All Media and Plein Air. Participating artists include Dale Alcocer, Snehal Ambre, Jeannine Anderson, Barbara Baker, Cheryl Ann Boc-Chidester, Danna Bowersox, Pat Cheal, Winnie Chrzanowski, Judy Curry, Norm Euker, Laura Fawaz, Brian Fritz, Jill Hemingway, Brant MacLean, Marcella MacLean, Susan Mankowski, Robert Perrish, Aleah Pieniadz, Louisa Pour, K.K. Sparks, Sandy Steed, Pat Vartanian, and Lalee Vingren.
