Crime Report: $9.60 in Returnable Cans Stolen, Car Keyed

The following information was supplied by the Novi Police Department. Arrests do not indicate a conviction.

An employee from reported that 96 returnable cans were stolen from the restaurant’s property on Jan. 27 around 2 p.m., according to a police report. The employee went out to the back deck of the restaurant and saw a male standing near the four cases of cans, the report said. The man said he was there to pick up the cans and was contracted to do so by the company, the report said. The employee went back into the restaurant to get her manager, and when the two came back, the man and the cans were gone, the report said.

According to the report, similar types of incidents have taken place several times over the past few months at this Applebee’s. The employee did give a description of the man, but did not have his license plate information, the report said. The police do not have any suspect leads, the report said.

Car keyed 

A woman reported that her car was keyed while she was on vacation from Dec. 26 to Jan. 15, according to a police report. The woman’s Ford car was parked in her driveway on Washington Street while she was away, and she returned to find key scratches on each side of the car running the length of each door, the report said. The woman and police do not have any suspects, the report said.

Teen arrested on charges of marijuana possession 

Two teens were arrested on charges or a minor in possession of alcohol on Jan. 26 at 4 p.m., according to a police report. The police got an anonymous tip that the two boys, ages 17 and 18, were smoking marijuana in a car in the back of the parking lot on Solomon Boulevard, the report said. A police officer found the car and the boy in the driver’s seat said they were waiting for a friend who lives in nearby apartment, the report said.

According to the report, the officer could smell marijuana coming from the vehicle and the driver granted him permission to search the car. The officer used a K-9 to search the car and found 10.3 grams of marijuana, a pipe, a digital scale and an open beer can in the compartment of the driver’s front door, the report said.

The teens were then asked to take a Breathalyzer test; one had a blood-alcohol content of 0.6 while the other had a BAC of 0.4, the report said. After admitting that the marijuana was his, the officer arrested one of the teens on charges of a minor in possession of alcohol by consumption and possession of marijuana, the report said. The other boy was arrested only on the possession charge, the report said.
