Fischer Among 'Elite 40 Under 40' in Oakland County

Novi City Council member Justin Fischer, 29, was named one of Oakland County Executive L. Brooks Patterson's "Elite 40 Under 40" at the State of the County Address Feb. 7.

Chosen from nearly 400 nominees, every one of the "Elite 40 Under 40" is excelling in his or her field while giving back to the community. Fischer was nominated for the award by Novi resident and volunteer Tim Shroyer.

"The members of my 'Elite 40 Under 40' represent where Oakland County is headed tomorrow: charging into the knowledge-based economy, providing strong leadership, and engaged in improving the quality of life in our region," said Patterson in his 2012 State of the County address.

"These young men and women truly make a statement about the talent that abounds in Oakland County and, as far as I'm concerned, confirm a bright future for our region and our country," Patterson said.

Along with his role on the Novi City Council, Fischer works at Ford Motor Company, overseeing stockholders’ equity and share-based compensation accounting.

“It is truly an honor to be named as one of the inaugural members of the 'Elite 40 Class' and recognized by County Executive Patterson. Those chosen truly exemplify innovation and dedication to their community, and I am so proud to be associated with so many other outstanding leaders who represent their best in their respective industry and communities,” Fischer said.

First elected at the age 26, Fischer is one of the youngest people ever elected to the Novi City Council. Starting at the age of 20, Fischer was appointed to the Novi Zoning Board of Appeals, and subsequently was elected to the Board of Directors of the Novi Parks Foundation. During college, Fischer also worked in the Office of State Senator Nancy Cassis and interned in the Office of U.S. Congressman Mike Rogers.   

Fischer earned his MBA and bachelor's in finance from Michigan State University. He and his wife, Melissa, plan to raise their family in Novi, the community they both called home growing up.
