Man, 81, Dies Days After Oakland County Crash: Sheriff

Officials believe alcohol was not a factor in the crash.

COMMERCE TOWNSHIP, MI — An 81-year-old Florida man died three days after a crash in Oakland County, according to the sheriff's office.

The crash happened at 9:21 a.m. Monday on northbound M-5 at West 14 Mile Road in Commerce Township, officials said.

Officials said James Raymond Skiver was a passenger in a 2025 Mitsubishi Outlander that was being driven by his 73-year-old wife. She turned right onto M-5 from 14 Mile Road when they were hit by a 2023 Acura RDX, officials said.

Witnesses told officers the Acura had a green light when the crash happened.

Skiver, his wife and the driver of the Acura, a 53-year-old woman from Chicago, were taken to a nearby hospital, officials said.

Skiver died on Thursday, while the conditions of his wife and the Chicago woman were not immediately known, officials said.

Investigators believe all three people involved in the crash were wearing seatbelts. They also believe alcohol did not play a role in the crash.

Officials were still investigating the crash.
