U.S. Customs and Border may probe travelers' social media history entering the country (fox2detroit.com) — A proposed U.S. Customs and Border Protection rule could require foreign visitors to share up to five years of social media history and other personal details, and at least one Novi resident is calling it invasive and unnecessary. The plan, still in discussion, targets travelers using the Visa Waiver Program and is open for public comment through early February.

Prep Roundup: Stoney Creek GBB improves to 2-0 with Lakeland win (theoaklandpress.com) — Novi High School’s boys basketball team fell 60-37 on the road to Lake Orion, with the Dragons pulling away behind a big scoring night from senior Nathan Giacolone. The roundup also highlights several other metro Detroit prep basketball and hockey results from earlier this week, offering context on how neighboring schools are starting their winter seasons.

House Republicans seek to limit state Attorney General's powers (wgvunews.org) — Novi’s state representative Kelly Breen is pushing back against a Republican bill package that would sharply limit when Michigan’s attorney general can step into court cases and where those cases are tried. She argues the changes would slow urgent legal decisions and weaken the office’s ability to represent residents statewide, while sponsors say they’re trying to curb overreach and venue shopping.

UIF Fellows present innovative campus solutions to CMU leadership (cmich.edu) — A Central Michigan University innovation project features Marketing major Nicole Watts, who hails from Novi, as she helps propose using virtual reality in classrooms to boost hands-on learning. The student team presented their design-thinking work to CMU business leaders, who praised the fellows for driving campus-wide innovation and exploring next steps for their VR initiative.
