Police Arrest Man on Charges of Possessing Drug Paraphernalia

Novi police arrested a man around 2 a.m. July 11 on charges of possessing narcotic paraphernalia, according to a police report.

An officer stopped the driver of a 1994 Oldsmobile near Grand River Avenue and Novi Road after seeing that its license plate lights were not working, the report said. 

The driver told the officer that she had been kicked out of her house for the night because she missed her curfew, according to the report. She said her mother texted her and told her not to bother coming home, the report said.

The officer asked if there was anything in the car that he should know about, the report said. She said there might be some marijuana and a marijuana pipe in the car and that they, she and four other passengers, had all smoked marijuana earlier, the report said. The woman said they all bought the marijuana together from Redford, according to the report. 

One of the passengers said that there was a marijuana smoking pipe and a grinder underneath one of the front seats, the report said, and admitted that it was his. A police dog sniffed out the vehicle and found a marijuana pipe and a marijuana grinder under the front driver’s seat, according to the report.

The driver, who said she smoked about a gram of marijuana earlier, had trouble with several sobriety tests like the one leg stand, the report said. The officer arrested her for driving while in the presence of drugs, according to the report, and arrested the passenger for possessing narcotic paraphernalia. 

The man had a hearing July 22.
