Fidel Castro's Exiled Daughter to Speak at Oakland University

Alina Fernandez will talk about her experiences growing up in Cuba, fleeing the country and her involvement in a movement of political dissent, according to the university.

Oakland University will host a lecture by Alina Fernandez, the daughter of Fidel Castro, from 7-9 p.m. Monday at Varner Recital Hall in part of OU's Hispanic Celebration Month.

Fernandez is scheduled to speak about her experiences growing up in Cuba, fleeing the country and "her role in a movement of political dissent," according to the college.

“Alina Fernandez gives a really rare insight into Cuban life and politics,” stated Michelle Alwardt, director of OUSC Legislative Affairs, on the university website. “She’s an activist, a family woman and a rebel all at once.”
