Lake Orion Community Schools's Project BusSTAR (Supporting Teaching by Assisting in Reading) program received the ASBO International 2013 Pinnacle Award for Innovation in Business Management, according to a posting by Lake Orion Superintendent Marion Ginopolis.

Project BusSTAR was founded by Dale Gobythe district's director of transportation, and has district bus drivers volunteering their time between bus runs to assist teachers and students in their classrooms.

Drivers work in conjunction with the building principals and directly with the teachers to assist students who could use extra help. The purpose of the program is to utilize available human resources of the transportation department to assist student learners in support of the district's mission.
