Officials said Mansuori is a caseworker for the nonprofit Samaritas and Rahmati was one of his clients.
The two met last Wednesday outside Mansuori's Orion Township home where Rahmati stabbed him multiple times, according to police.
Rahmati also tried attacking another man who came to help Mansuori, according to police.
Rahmati then fled the scene in his vehicle before turning himself in to Dearborn Heights police later that day, according to police.
Officials were still trying to determine a motive for the stabbing, but said it may have involved some kind of religious complaint by the attacker.
Both men are Afghan nationals and live legally in the US.
"Zubair Mansuori is the victim of a heinous and seemingly unprovoked attack," Oakland County Prosecutor Karen McDonald said. "I am committed to bringing his alleged attacker to justice."
