Community Corner

Spring beckons; little libraries spring anew

Friends of the Rochester Hills Public Library renew sale efforts

(Friends of RHPL)

Spring is just around the corner.

Really.

So, it is time again for neighborhoods, businesses and homeowners in Rochester Hills, Rochester, and Oakland Twp. to think about installing a Friends of the Rochester Hills Public Library Little Free Lending Library across those communities.

Popular throughout the country, these small, wooden libraries (they look like a miniature house front) are often seen on street corners, in subdivision parks, on neighborhood cul-de-sacs or in owner’s front yards. They provide a free book exchange for children, teens and/or adults in a safe, neighborhood setting.

Friends of RHPL is offering a fully constructed Little Free Lending Library, complete with post and installation instructions. A sample Little Free Lending Library is on display outside the RHPL Friends Store. The sample is a true representation of the Little Free Lending Library that each buyer will receive. All that’s left to do is to finish the library with paint, varnish, and any other embellishments desired, then choose a location, dig a hole and stock and maintain the books (with some help, if needed, from the Friends’ donated used book collection activities).
