Couple Found Shot To Death Inside Wayne County Home: Police

Police believe the shooting was a murder-suicide.

WESTLAND, MI — Police are investigating what they believe was a murder-suicide that happened Tuesday inside a Westland home.

The incident happened at 7:20 p.m. in a home in the 1400 block of Surrey Heights, near Palmer and John Hix roads in Westland, according to police.

Police said a man called 911 and told officials that he shot his girlfriend and was going to shoot himself.

During the 911 call, the dispatcher heard a gunshot and then silence on the open line afterward, according to police.

Officers forced their way into the home and found 52-year-old Joseph King and 46-year-old Melissa Hattar shot to death, according to police.

Police said the couple lived in the home.

Police were still investigating the incident and asked anyone with information to call the Westland Police Department at 734-722-9600.
