Aspiring Eagle Scout Needs A Little Help For His Community Project At The Plymouth VFW Post

Ben Olex has undertaken a large beautification project at the Plymouth VFW Post, and could use a little GoFundMe help from our community.

Becoming an Eagle Scout is a great achievement, and it's a years long journey that requires dedication, teamwork, and a desire to do good deeds in one's community. It is no small endeavor. Very few achieve this accomplishment, and it is something to be admired when one achieves this goal. Ben Olex, a member of Scout Troop 1537 is seeking to achieve the rank of Eagle Scout, and he needs a little help from our community.

Ben is a Junior at Canton High School, and has been in scouting since he was in first grade. While he is currently contemplating pursuing an engineering degree after high school graduation, he has a more immediate goal, and that is becoming an Eagle Scout. That requires a community project, and he has chosen a project to make major landscaping improvements to the Plymouth VFW Post.

When asked why he chose the Plymouth VFW Post, he said that, “I have had a connection to the Plymouth VFW Post for years having been a part of many scouting activities there, and I just wanted to do something for our veterans for my Eagle Scout project. The VFW Post has always had meaning to me, so it was an easy decision.”

As for his GoFundMe page, Ben indicated to me that while he has enlisted the help of all of his fellow
scouts, as well as family and friends for the hard work, the money raised will help pay for all necessary materials and supplies involved. He indicated to me that “While our community has been
very generous so far, I still have ways to go to be able to complete this project properly, and any financial help, big or small, that members of our community can give would be gratefully accepted.”

Ben made it a point to credit Panetta's Landscaping, and Northville Lumber for going above and beyond in helping to ease the financial burden of this project, but he also needs the help of our Plymouth-Canton community to get this project to the finish line. That time is coming soon as he is hoping to get everything completed in the first 2 weeks of October.

It is a wonderful thing to see a young man like Ben choose the Plymouth VFW Post for his community Eagle Scout project, and the veterans that call this sacred place home are very grateful. Every Spring the veterans have a work detail, and they do their best to spruce the place up, but with Ben's landscaping improvements, he is looking to make an impact for the home of our local veterans for years to come. Ben will make it much easier to maintain, as well as make it a far more beautiful and welcoming environment for our veterans and visitors to our local VFW Post.
