Canton Plans for More Growth

Canton Township is looking to add new and keep old businesses in its borders. 

Kristen Thomas, Canton's economic development and marketing analyst, presented ideas Tuesday to the township board for ways to improve Canton's economic growth, according to an article on HometownLife.com. 

The township will choose a company to lead a new market study for the Ford Road corridor, specifically between Lilley and Lotz roads, the Cherry Hill Village area and Michigan Avenue.

“There's still a lot that can be done along Ford Road, believe it or not,” Thomas told HometownLife. 

The study is expected to cost less than $50,000, according to the article, and the township would like to partner with the Downtown Development Authority, which promotes Ford Road, to pay for it.

However, new developments on Ford Road will add traffic to already congested intersections. The Haggerty and Ford roads intersection is the most dangerous in Michigan.

Supervisor Phil LaJoy said he is hopeful the Michigan Department of Transportation is close to finding a solution to fix the problem, according to the article.
