Dog Saves Owner in Canton Fire

4-year-old Yorkshire terrier alerts owner of house fire.

A dog firmly established its role as a Canton woman's best friend after alerting its owner of a house fire, according to the Canton Observer.

Teri Daniels says Grady, her 4-year-old Yorkshire terrier, caused a ruckus Oct. 10, barking, whimpering and running around Daniels' quad-level home southwest of Warren and Canton Center roads while she put laundry away and watched television, the Observer reported.

According to the report, Daniels ignored Grady for about 45 minutes—until about 9:30 p.m.—and didn't notice an upstairs ceiling vent fan in the bathroom had caused a fire spreading to her attic.

When Daniels noticed she had a problem, the report said, she opened her back door and noticed her yard engulfed in smoke.

Canton firefighters responded to the scene and extinguished the flames, the report said. Daniels told the Observer her house will have to undergo repairs.
