Located at 860 Fralick Street in Downtown Plymouth, Doyle’s Tavern will hold a special barbecue to recognize Father’s Day on Sunday, while acknowledging its new ownership and patio as well.
Having experience of working in the industry for about 25 years, part-time owner
and general manager Gary Stobbe started discussing plans of taking over the place with major-owner Robert Ostendorf after meeting at the restaurant.
“Bob had never been in the business, but he has been a patron here for a long time,” Stobbe said. “We met here and started talking. He said it had been something he always wanted to do, and I told him about my experience, and that’s how it all came about.”
Ostendorf and Stobbe took over on April 28. Although they have made few major changes to the restaurant, besides re-doing the patio, new carpet, glassware and paint have been added to help clean the place up, Stobbe said.
“We left the menu and everything else pretty much the way it was,” said Stobbe.
By holding a special barbecue on Sunday, the new owners hope to serve between 150 and 200 customers from when they open at 11 a.m. until they close at 10 p.m.
“We’re actually bringing in steak, which we normally don’t do, along with barbecue chicken, homemade potato salad and baked beans. Stellas will be on special for $1, and we are also serving a beer margarita for $3. There will be something for everybody,” said Stobbe.
Doyle’s Tavern brings in a very diverse clientele. From a lot of middle-aged customers to many young children, it has been a place that everyone seems to enjoy, especially since the patio has been re-done, said Stobbe.
“It’s called Stella’s Patio. Stella is Bob’s dog, a Bernese Mountain Dog. A lot of people see him walking his dog around town,” Stobbe said.
Because they expect a large crowd will fill both the patio and the inside of the restaurant on Father’s Day, a full staff will be working to ensure a successful barbecue.
“It will be our way of appreciating fathers, and well as a way to show off our new patio and ownership,” said Stobbe.
