Former Michigan, Catholic Central​ Football Standout Dies At 36: UM

Officials did not release a cause of death.

ANN ARBOR, MI — Former Michigan football and Grand Rapids Catholic Central linebacker, Obi Ezeh, died at 36, according to university officials.

Michigan football confirmed the death of the star linebacker on Sunday. Officials did not release a cause of death.

"We are saddened to hear about the passing of former Wolverine linebacker Obi Ezeh," university officials said in a statement. "Our prayers go out to his family, friends and former teammates. May he rest in peace."

Ezeh was a standout linebacker for the Wolverines from 2006 through 2010, recording 293 tackles, including 19.5 of those for loss and three sacks, as well as two interceptions in 49 games.

Ezeh won the Roger Zatkoff Award as Michigan’s top linebacker in 2008 while earning All-Big Ten Honorable Mention. The Grand Rapids native was also a star at Grand Rapids Catholic Central.
