Gallimore Students Portray Historical Figures With Wax Museum

P-CCS teachers have the incredible ability to present lessons that help students remember what they have learned for a lifetime.

P-CCS teachers have the incredible ability to present lessons that help students remember what they have learned for a lifetime. Gallimore Elementary 3rd grade teacher Kristin Juriga is one of those special teachers and her Wax Museum project is a favorite of students and one that really has a lasting impact.

To support the study of non-fiction reading and writing, students are invited to choose a person to study. The person can be someone from history or the present who has had an impact on our world. Students chose a variety of people to study, including historians, musicians, humanitarians, athletes, scholars, writers and more. During past school years, students dress up like their selected person and give a first-person speech during a wax museum presentation at school.

This year, so families could join in on the presentations, and support the hybrid learning model, students recorded themselves giving their speeches and posted their recordings on Flipgrid. This project incorporates many essential learning skills in the areas of reading, writing, speaking, research, and presentation.

In some ways this presentation format allowed all students to be more creative and gave them the opportunity to clearly share all they had learned during this project and their study of non-fiction. At a time when learning looks and feels so much different, Juriga's students had an opportunity to shine through this biography project and create a memory that will last forever.
