Prosecutors said Gregory was roughly a foot away from the building when he fired several shots after he was turned away at the entrance. They said the shots were not directed at the school.
The school was placed into lockdown and officers were called on reports of an active shooter. Officers arrested Gregory shortly after the incident, prosecutors said.

Prosecutors added that Gregory's son is a student at the school.
"This case is every parent’s nightmare," Wayne County Prosecutor Kym Worthy said. "The defendant allegedly fired a gun several times in proximity to the school when he was denied entry to get his son. The immediate reporting of an active shooter by the school allowed the Romulus Police to quickly respond and apprehend the defendant. Luckily, no one was harmed."
