High-Tech Corridor Coming To Plymouth Township?

"We're turning this old eyesore into a regional engine for jobs," says one local official.

PLYMOUTH TOWNSHIP, MI — Plans to transform the former 120-acre Detroit House of Corrections prison site into a high-tech business corridor were unveiled Wednesday. Bidders are being sought for the parcel, which sits on Five Mile Road west of Beck, by the end of the year. The hope is to lure developers and, potentially, thousands of jobs to Plymouth and Northville townships, according to a Detroit Free Press report.

“Our primary mission is to take unproductive properties and return them to productive, tax-capturing use,” Josh Burgett, the Michigan Land Bank Fast Track Authority’s director. “DeHoCo has been an eyesore, sitting unproductive for far too long.”
“We’re turning this old eyesore into a regional engine for jobs and economic growth,” Plymouth Township Supervisor Kurt Heise said. “We’re bringing development and jobs to Plymouth Township and improving the quality of life for our residents.”
