Hilltop Golf Course's Future In Doubt

Plymouth Township officials consider closing the golf course.

PLYMOUTH TOWNSHIP, MI — Hilltop Golf Course's days could be numbered. Plymouth Township officials say the golf course is a drain on finances that’s only likely to get worse in the coming years. With the township trying to improve its financial picture, keeping Hilltop may not make sense.

"It's a money loser," Plymouth Township Supervisor Kurt Heise said. Hilltop is projected to lose nearly $318,000 during a seven-year period ending in 2020, according to a financial analysis revealed Tuesday during talks between the township board and Plante Moran auditing firm.
Compounding the problem, Hilltop is expected to need about $741,000 during the next five years to replace golf carts, perform maintenance and replace aging equipment, officials said.
