Longhorns Dominate Wolverines For Statement Win At The Big House

The No. 3 Longhorns controlled nearly every aspect of the game and cruised to a 31-12 victory over the No. 10 Wolverines.

ANN ARBOR, MI — The Michigan Wolverines were no match for the Texas Longhorns Saturday afternoon at The Big House.

The No. 3 Longhorns controlled nearly every aspect of the game and cruised to a 31-12 victory over the No. 10 Wolverines.

The statement win for the Longhorns pushes them even further as true national championship contenders, while the Wolverines will hit the drawing boards and figure out what went wrong in the blowout loss.

The Longhorns set the tone early by converting multiple third downs and dominating time of possession. At one point in the first half, the Longhorns had run 27 plays to just a handful of Wolverine plays.

Longhorns quarterback and Heisman front-runner Quinn Ewers looked comfortable tossing the ball around as the Wolverines' staunch defensive front struggled to get pressure all afternoon.

The lopsided first half came to an end after Ewers drove the Longhorns 42 yards down the field and hit Matthew Golden in the end zone to put the Longhorns up 24-3.

That drive followed a crucial fumble by Colston Loveland, who inexplicably dropped the ball after a catch with no defenders around him.

The Longhorns continued controlling the line of scrimmage in the second half, including a 55-yard run from Ryan Wingo that set up another Ewers touchdown pass. That put the Longhorns up 31-6 and effectively put the game out of reach for the Wolverines.

If there's any silver lining for the Wolverines to take away from the blowout loss, it may be the final minutes.

After struggling to get the passing game going, or anything really, Wolverines quarterback Davis Warren led the offense 78 yards down the field, capping the drive with a 32-yard pass to Semaj Morgan for their lone touchdown. The two-point conversion failed.

The only other highlight for the Wolverines was kicker Dominic Zvada, who hit two field goals from 37 and 52 yards.

The Longhorns out-gained the Wolverines 389 to 284 in total yards and converted 10 of 16 third downs, while the Wolverines struggled on third down all game, going just 3-12.

Moreover, the Wolverines' anemic offense was further troubled by three turnovers to Texas' none.

The loss also snaps Michigan's 29 straight regular season wins, including 23 in home. The Wolverines entered the game as underdogs for the first time since facing the Ohio State Buckeyes in 2021.

The Wolverines (1-1) will look to get back on track next week against the Arkansas State Red Wolves at The Big House. Kickoff for that game is scheduled for noon and will air on the Big Ten network.
