Parents will be able to sign up for a scheduled conference with teachers via Zoom. We will be sending step-by-step instructions during the week of October 4th on how to schedule a conference with a teacher.
Pioneer Girls Volleyball:
Attention all 7th and 8th grade girls interested in trying out for the Pioneer Middle School volleyball team. Tryouts will take place Oct. 20-22 from 3:15-4:30pm in the Pioneer gym. All interested students must have a sports physical on file or bring it with them to tryouts. The sports physical must be dated after April 15, 2021. Students will be required to wear masks. If you have any questions, please email Coach Palmer: john.palmer@pccsk12.com or athletic liaison Jenny Fenner: jennifer.fenner@pccsk12.com.
New requirements for attending High School Athletic Events:
Effective this Friday, October 1, 2021 P-CCS students that are not high school students must be accompanied by a parent, guardian, or adult family member to be allowed into football games at P-CEP. Middle and elementary school students will be allowed to attend games if accompanied by a high school sibling but they must remain together for the duration of the game. All students will be required to show their school IDs to be allowed to enter the game.
Masks:
Masks are required to be worn by all students, staff, and visitors in P-CCS each school day and on the bus. Masks need to cover both the mouth and nose of the individual. Students will be allowed to remove their masks while they are outside (recess, mask breaks, outside class activities, and during lunch). If a student chooses to wear a cloth mask, please make sure they are being washed consistently. If a student needs a mask, we will provide one.
National Junior Honor Society:
Interested in joining the National Junior Honor Society? Any interested 7th or 8th grade student, with a GPA of 3.5 or higher, can apply by filling out this google form. The NJHS application window is September 27-October 4th. The deadline for applications is October 4th. No applications will be accepted late!
Current and future NJHS members- Here is the calendar for this year NJHS. Please review the dates and events for the upcoming year.
NWEA Testing:
All Pioneer students will be participating in NWEA testing on the following dates:
Math: October 5, 6, 7 Reading:October 12, 13, 14
Math testing will take place in students’ math classes and the Reading test will take place in students’ ELA classes. Please try not to schedule appointments for your child on these dates.
Students will need to bring a fully-charged Chromebook or personal laptop/device for testing.
Water Bottles:
We are finding that many students do not have refillable water bottles throughout the day. Since the mouth pieces to our drinking fountains have to remain off, we have installed three water bottle filling stations in the building. Please remind your student to bring a refillable water bottle each day so they can stay hydrated.
Positivity Project:
As part of the Positivity Project, each week at Pioneer we will be working with students on developing positive character traits during Homeroom. Next week we will be focusing on Open-Mindedness. Please see the attached Character Card for more information.
District Updates:
P-CCS will host a community virtual town hall on the topic of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion this coming Tuesday, October 5, from 4:30 p.m. to 6 p.m. The event will be broadcast via the P-CCS Official YouTube Channel and also archived on the channel for future viewing as well.
Co-moderated by the district’s Curriculum and Human Resources departments, the town hall will create an opportunity for district leadership to address questions and feedback directly from the community regarding topics that surround the district’s diversity, equity, and inclusion work.
If you would like to submit a question or feedback to be addressed during the town hall, you will be able to find an online form via the official P-CCS website starting Wednesday morning, September 29. This form will close on Sunday evening, October 3, at 7 p.m.
You can find the P-CCS Official YouTube Channel on the homepage of the oficial district website or by simply searching ‘P-CCS Official’ on YouTube.
Just a reminder for parents that the district’s mitigation strategies for the 2021/22 school year are located on the district website at: https://docs.google.com/document/d/1Ak4PhoPAqcyn3gXWzAxByXtrIz-cfDfUX-7aOEImstM/edit
It is important for parents to be familiar with these guidelines so that we can keep all students safe and at school (in-person) for the entire school year.
