Seymour Family Scholarship

The Rotary Club of Plymouth A.M. Scholarships strive to recognize High School  Seniors who are residents of the Plymouth-Canton School District area who have  overcome adversity in their quest for their high school diploma. We seek individuals  who have displayed courage, perseverance, spirit and creativity in order to succeed  in achieving an education despite a physical, mental or emotional challenge or  barrier. In addition, these individuals must have demonstrated an appreciation of  others and a commitment to their community.

The recipients of these awards will receive one of the following scholarships:

The Trumpka Triumph Scholarships honor Gerald "Jerry" Trumpka, a founding  member of the Rotary Club of Plymouth A.M. and a resident of Plymouth. Jerry was  a victim of polio at age nine. He used his struggle with polio and triumph over  adversity to become an inspiration to his family, better the community and support  Rotary's efforts to eradicate the disease. Jerry passed away in 2008.

The Fred DeRoche Scholarship honors Fred DeRoche, the founding president of the  Rotary Club of Plymouth AM Foundation and member of the Plymouth AM Rotary  Club. Fred was committed to Rotary and was a supporter of youth programs in the  Plymouth community. Fred passed away in 2011.

The Seymour Family Scholarship honors Rosalie Burke Seymour, a long-time  resident of Canton who taught in the Plymouth School System in the late 1940’s.  She was the widowed mother of seven, one of whom is a founding member of the

Rotary Club of Plymouth A.M. In memory of their mother’s quiet determination, her  children have designated this scholarship to assist the child of a widowed, divorced  or single mother to reach his or her educational goals. Applications from single  mothers will be accepted.
