Plymouth Ice Festival Kicks Off Friday: What To Know
Along with the sculptures, the popular dueling chainsaw competition returns this weekend.
PLYMOUTH, MI — The Plymouth Ice Festival gets under way Friday, and runs through this weekend in downtown Plymouth.
Ice carvers on Thursday were transforming massive 350 pound blocks of ice into over 100 intricate sculptures, setting the stage for an unforgettable winter celebration.
"This festival creates magical moments that families treasure," said James Gietzen, Festival Director. "Thanks to Michigan First Credit Union, the 2025 festival will celebrate community, connection, and creativity—offering something for everyone, from kids to adults."

Along with the sculptures, the popular dueling chainsaw competition event—returns on Saturday at 7 p.m.
The adrenaline-pumping event challenges ice carvers to transform a single block of ice into a masterpiece in just 15 minutes using only one additional tool.

"This has been one of the most requested events over the past few years, and we are so excited to bring it back," said Gietzen.
Other Festival highlights include:
- Ice Sculptures Throughout Downtown – Marvel at world-renowned ice sculptors as they create stunning works of art in Kellogg Park and along the downtown sidewalks.
- Ice Festival Throne – Presented by Varsity Automotive Group, this annual favorite offers the perfect photo op as guests sit on a throne made of ice.
- Saturday morning collage Carving Competition in Kellogg park
- Sunday professional ice carving competition in Kellogg park
- The Hot Spot – A heated retreat sponsored by Ehlers Heating and Cooling, featuring local vendors and businesses.
- Food and Drinks – Enjoy Polish delicacies, hot chocolate, and festival favorites like fresh-roasted almonds, elephant ears, and mini donuts.
- Crazy Craig Family Comedy Juggling Show – A high-energy, family-friendly variety show presented by DTE Energy Foundation with multiple performances throughout the weekend.
- Family Petting Zoo – Presented by Michigan First Credit Union, featuring horses, donkeys, alpacas, pony rides, and more.
- Tubing Run – Over 100 feet of tubing excitement, back by popular demand at Main Street & Ann Arbor Trail.
- Party Lot & Ice Bar – Enjoy live music and dancing every night at E.G. Nicks’ Party Lot, featuring an Ice Bar presented by Pink Whitney.
- Friday: James and The Rumors
- Saturday: Power Play Detroit
- Ice Fest Bingo – A fun downtown scavenger hunt presented by Pathfinder Financial Consultants – Thrivent.
- Movies at the Historic Penn Theatre – Watch Frozen II on the big screen for just $5 per ticket (cash only).
- Explore Downtown Plymouth – Visit local shops, salons, spas, and restaurants with the Downtown Walking Map.
The festival's hours are:
- Friday, Jan. 31 6 – 9 p.m.
- Saturday, Feb. 1 11 a.m.– 9 p.m. Sunday
- Feb. 2 11 a.m. – 5 p.m.
