Plymouth Plans 150th Anniversary Celebration
A Fourth of July parade and an ice cream social highlight the celebration.

PLYMOUTH, MI — The city known for its quaint downtown, annual ice festival and the long ago Daisy Air Rifle factory is throwing a party starting June 29. The occasion? Plymouth is turning 150 years old. Two years after the Civil War ended, the western Wayne County community was founded and has prospered ever since.
Music, a 5K run, an ice cream social and a Fourth of July parade will highlight the celebration. Mayor Pro Tem Oliver Wolcott told the Plymouth Observer milestones like turning 150, matter.
"When you talk to people in the streets, there's a certain pride in the community for not just lasting this long, but for thriving,” he said.
Among the planned activities are:
The Plymouth Community Band plans to perform music from the last 150 years during a concert at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, June 29, in Kellogg Park.
The next night, Steve King and the Dittilies will perform at 7 p.m. in the park during the Music in the Air concert series, sponsored by the Plymouth Downtown Development Authority. As a bonus to this year's series, the Plymouth Historical Museum is set to share a slice of the city's history before each show.
