Police Arrest Ypsilanti Woman on Marijuana Possession Charges

Canton Township police arrested an Ypsilanti woman around 10 p.m. July 1 on charges of possessing marijuana, according to a police report.
An officer saw the driver of a silver Ford Taurus take a right onto Michigan Avenue from Belleville Road on a red light causing an oncoming car to slow down sharply and honk, the report said. The officer stopped the driver who said she could not see well because her windows were fogged, according to the report.
The officer could smell marijuana coming from inside the car, the report said. The driver said there was a “roach” in the ashtray and admitted to smoking marijuana several hours ago, according to the report.

The officer found a marijuana-like substance in a plastic bag inside the woman’s purse, the report said. She said she did not know about it, which tested positive in a field test for marijuana, was there, according to the report.
The officer arrested her and she has a hearing July 17.
