Police Use Grappler To Stop Stolen Car On Metro Detroit Freeway: MSP

LIVONIA, MI — Three people were arrested after officers stopped a stolen car on a metro Detroit freeway Thursday morning, according to Michigan State Police.
The incident happened at 7:25 a.m. Thursday on Interstate 96 at Stark Road in Livonia, according to police.
Troopers were on patrol in Detroit when they spotted a Chevy Cruz that was reported stolen out of Dearborn, according to police.

Troopers followed the car onto westbound Interstate 96 when they called Livonia Police for help, according to police.
Livonia officers spotted the car and used a grappler device to stop the car near Stark Road in Livonia, according to police.

Despite being "grappled," the suspected car thief tried speeding away, but the car's rear axle was ripped off the vehicle, according to police.
The driver, identified as a 27-year-old Brighton man, was arrested on charges of auto theft and a probation violation.
Two women in the car were also arrested after officers learned they had several warrants from different jurisdictions.
"We continue to use technology to find and stop criminals in our communities," said MSP First Lt. Mike Shaw. "Thanks to the Livonia Police Department and their grappler device, these suspects are now in jail without the need for a pursuit."
There were no injuries reported in the incident.
