Saxtons Redevelopment A Step Closer
A Detroit-based developer has been charged with designing a mixed use plan for the site.

PLYMOUTH, MI — Plymouth is one step closer to a new development for the former Saxtons property at the corner of Ann Arbor Trail and Deer Street. A Downtown Development Authority subcommittee is recommending Harmonie Park Development come up with a mixed use plan for the site that housed the popular garden center for decades.
"Harmonie Park set themselves above and beyond because of their community outreach," said Jason Smith, who chairs the subcommittee making the recommendation. "They're open to listening to the community. It's important to listen to the people close to (Saxton's) to reach the goals we want for the site."
"The site is very under-utilized at the moment," Smith said. "We could see a higher tax incentive if that site was developed with a higher density."
The subcommittee’s recommendation still has to be presented to the full DDA board for its approval, which is expected to happen at the full board's regular meeting Thursday, July 13.
