Wayne County Man Wins $4M Jackpot On Scratch-Off Ticket

The man said he decided to give a specific scratch-off ticket a shot after learning all three of its top prizes were still available.

WAYNE COUNTY, MI — A Wayne County man decided to give a specific scratch-off ticket a shot after learning all three of its top prizes were still available, and he ended up winning the $4 million jackpot, according to lottery officials.

The 50-year-old player, who chose to remain anonymous, bought his $4,000,000 Winner ticket at Superior Market, located at 5700 Plymouth Road in Ann Arbor, officials said.

"I like playing the $30 games and saw on the prizes remaining page on MichiganLottery.com that $4,000,000 Winner still had all three top prizes remaining, so I went to the store to buy a ticket," he told lottery officials.

He said the store had three tickets, so he decided to buy all three. After scratching the barcode on one of the tickets, he got a message to file a claim, but he said he was "too nervous" to scratch the ticket and see what prize he’d won.

"The next day, once I calmed down a bit, I scanned the ticket on the Michigan Lottery app and started screaming when $4 million came up on the screen! It was unreal," he said.

He chose to receive his prize as a one-time lump sum payment of about $2.7 million, rather than annuity payments for the full amount, officials said.

With his winnings, he plans to pay off his home, take a trip, and then save the remainder, officials said.
