Wayne County Packaging Company Laying Off Dozens

A packaging supplies company in Wayne County announced it is laying off dozens of workers.

LIVONIA, MI — A Detroit area packaging supplies company is laying off dozens of workers due to reduced business, according to a WARN notice filed with the Michigan Department of Labor and Economic Opportunity.

Pratt Industries announced that 53 manufacturing employees will be permanently laid off from its warehouse in Livonia, located at 32432 Capitol Street, according to the notice.

The layoffs will take effect on Aug. 10, according to the notice.

The company said the layoffs were due to reduced business because "Ford has decided to end the relationship with company," according to the notice.

Pratt Industries says it is the fifth-largest corrugated packaging company in the U.S. In addition to its Livonia warehouse, the company has two other Michigan facilities in Grand Rapids in Kalamazoo. Overall, they have manufacturing facilities in 25 states.
