2 Taken Into Custody After Rochester Hills Retail Fraud

Two people were taken into custody over the weekend following a reported retail fraud at the Market Place Circle Meijer in Rochester Hills.

ROCHESTER HILLS, MI — Two people were taken into custody over the weekend following a reported retail fraud at the Market Place Circle Meijer in Rochester Hills, the sheriff's office said.

Deputies from the Oakland County Sheriff's Office responded to the Meijer on Market Place Circle around 6:55 p.m. Friday following the report of retail fraud.

When deputies arrived, they said they met with store security officers who said a man didn't scan items before leaving the store. When security tried to stop the man he left in a white Cadillac Escalade, police said.

Soon after, a person called the sheriff's office to report a white Cadillac Escalade had hit another vehicle at Rochester and Auburn roads, police said. The caller said that the responsible vehicle had parked in a nearby store’s parking lot, police said.

Deputies said they responded to the scene and found the vehicle with a 44-year-old Clarkston man and a 45-year-old Pontiac woman in it. The man was identified as the suspect in the Meijer retail fraud case previously reported, police said.

Both people were taken into custody without incident, police said. The items stolen from Meijer were found in the vehicle, according to police.

The man was lodged at the Oakland County Jail pending charges, police said. While deputies were speaking with the woman, she said she had methamphetamine in her wallet and didn't know what to do with it, according to deputies. She said that she no longer wanted to use it, police said. She was released pending further investigation.

Deputies located the suspected narcotics and took possession of them. The female was released pending further investigation.
