Bomb Scare Defused By State Police
An Oakland County woman discovered what appeared to be an explosive device in her basement Sunday.

OAKLAND COUNTY, MI — An Oakland County homeowner got a scare Sunday afternoon when she discovered what appeared to be an explosive device in her basement. The Pontiac woman discovered two cylinder shaped objects inside of a green ammunition box and called the Oakland County Sheriff’s Office for help.
Deputies responded to the 200 block of W. Ann Arbor Avenue at about 5 p.m. and found what appeared to be military ordnance, according to a Sheriff’s Office news release. The Michigan State Police Bomb Squad was was called to the scene and determined that the item was a U.S. Military training device.
Police reports said the device was used to simulate a mortar round and an incendiary element that could have caused injury if not handled properly. The device was removed without incident. The woman told deputies the contents of the box belonged to her late husband, who was a Vietnam veteran.
