Children's Books Available At Library's Mini-Branches

Books added to encourage older Rochester Hills residents to read to kids.

ROCHESTER HILLS, MI — Children’s books are now available at three of the Rochester Hills Public Library’s “mini-branches.” The library’s Outreach Services Department provides services to older residents throughout the community with its six mini-branches, according to the library’s website.

An Oakland Press report said the aim is for older Rochester Hills residents to read to children. The three branches that have added children’s books include:

  • Avon on the Lake Minibranch Library was established in 1998 in the clubhouse of a manufactured home community for older adults at 2600 Auburn Road in Rochester Hills. The collection includes large and regular print books, and audiobooks. A computer is available in the Library and many residents can be found using the computer throughout the week.
  • Bellbrook at St. Joseph Mercy Senior Communities Minibranch Library was established in 1988 in a continuum of services retirement community at 873 W. Avon Road in Rochester Hills. Today the collection includes large print, regular print and paperback books along with popular magazines. A closed circuit television magnifying system is available for residents with low vision.
  • Samaritas Minibranch Library was established in 1980 in a HUD subsidized senior apartment building at 2566 Walton Boulevard in Rochester Hills. In 2007, the library was renovated and is now the centerpiece of the building. This browsing collection includes large and regular print books, as well as, magazines and DVDs.

Other mini-branches are located at Waltonwood at University, the Older Persons Center (OPC), and at the Avon Tower.
