Man, 77, Hit, Killed By Pickup Truck In Oakland County: Sheriff

Investigators​ do not believe alcohol, drugs or speed​ played a role in the crash.

PONTIAC, MI — A West Bloomfield man died Monday after he was hit by a pickup truck in Oakland County, according to the Oakland County Sheriff's Office.

The crash happened at 4 p.m. Monday in the area of Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard and Elm Street in Pontiac, officials said.

Officials said 77-year-old Jehad Alrayess was crossing Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard when he was struck by a 2022 GMC Sierra. Investigators believe Alrayess was lost and was trying to cross the street to ask for directions when he stepped into the path of the truck.

Alrayess was taken to McLaren Oakland Hospital in Pontiac where he died, officials said.

The 45-year-old Imlay City resident, who was driving the pickup truck, was not injured in the crash, officials said.

Investigators do not believe alcohol, drugs or speed played a role in the crash, which is still under investigation.

The incident is the fifth fatal pedestrian crash in Pontiac this year. Officials were still investigating two deadly hit-and-run crashes that happened within blocks of each other earlier this month.
