Officials said both crashes involved a Jeep and happened within blocks of each other.

PONTIAC, MI — A man was killed in a Tuesday night Oakland County hit-and-run crash that happened on the same road as another hit-and-run crash last month, and both crashes involved a Jeep, according to the Oakland County Sheriff's Office.

Officials said 43-year-old Thomas Cummings, was crossing Baldwin Avenue near Grandie Street in Pontiac minutes before midnight Tuesday when he was struck by a vehicle.

He was taken to a nearby hospital where he died, officials said.

Officials said he was crossing the road in a non-crosswalk area.

Shortly after 11 p.m. on July 3, an unidentified driver of a black Jeep Grand Cherokee struck and killed 48-year-old bicyclist Frank Tyson on Baldwin at Rundell, which is just blocks away from where Tuesday's crash happened, officials said.

The driver in both cases did not stop and simply drove away, officials said.

In the July 3 crash, a witness followed the Grand Cherokee onto a side street where the driver and a passenger got out of the damaged vehicle and drove away in a silver Chevrolet Malibu, officials said.

Officials were still investigating the crashes.

"We are asking for the public’s assistance in identifying individuals connected to a recent fatal crash," Oakland County Sheriff Michael Bouchard said. "If you know someone who drives a Jeep with unexplained front-end damage, or if you have any other relevant information, please come forward. Your help could be vital in bringing answers to the victim’s family and the community."

Officials asked anyone with information about the crashes to call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-SPEAK-UP. Crime Stoppers is offering a reward of up to $2,000 for information leading to an arrest in the case. Tipsters remain anonymous.
