(UPDATED)OAKLAND COUNTY, MI — A 28-year-old Waterford Township man was shot and killed by police early Thursday morning after he charged an officer with a loaded weapon, Waterford Township Police Chief Scott Underwood said in a news release. Police have not released the man’s name. No other injuries were reported.
The incident started at 3:05 a.m. Thursday when police received a 911 call from a woman who had just fled the home in the 2000 block of Sunhill Drive. The home sits just south of Walton Boulevard adjacent to Silver Lake.

The woman told police she left after being assaulted by her husband. Officers responded to the home and made contact with the man. Underwood said he threatened to kill officers, burn down his house, and kill himself.

After a last phone call with police, the 28-year-old left the house. The man walked through a side treeline near the home and then charged an officer with a loaded shotgun, Underwood said. He was then shot.
The Waterford Township man was transported to McLaren Hospital where he was pronounced dead at 6:20 a.m.
Police investigated the scene after the shooting. The home had had gasoline poured throughout several rooms and gas burners on the stove were left open.
