Pontiac Offers Grant Opportunities For Workforce Development Programs

Applications are available to receive funds through the American Rescue Plan Act to support childcare and literacy projects.

PONTIAC, MI (December 23, 2024)— The City of Pontiac has $800,000 in American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA) dollars to help organizations with workforce development, childcare, and literacy projects. Grant recipients will be selected through an application process and must meet criteria consisting of different initiatives that support job seekers and employers impacted by COVID-19

“We are pleased to announce $800,000 in grant funding available for organizations and non-profits targeting projects related to Workforce Development, Childcare, and Literacy, three pillars that are potential obstacles to those either seeking or continuing employment”, said Marcus Pearson, Neighborhood Revitalization Coordinator. “In addressing these concerns for the residents of Pontiac, the Economic Development Division, in conjunction with the Pontiac City Council and the Mayor’s office, understands the needs of its residents and is excited to partner with others towards alleviating those needs.”

Achieving the best quality of life for residents has always been a top priority for the administration and that includes assisting with matching employees with employers. That would be very beneficial to the city’s job market. The current grants would help Pontiac organizations capitalize on:

  • Career training programs.
  • Job placement partnerships with local organizational scholarships for residents attending vocational or technical training.
  • Eliminating barriers to employment by providing access to childcare.
  • Providing training around literacy, job readiness, entry support for displaced workers, resume workshops, and career counseling.

Pontiac organizations and individuals are encouraged to read through the information online and apply. Previous ARPA grant applicants need not reapply.
