Rochester Hills Man Dies Hours After Being Released From Jail

Detectives are investigating 37-year-old Rochester Hills man's death.

ROCHESTER HILLS, MI — A 37-year-old Rochester Hills man died the same day he was released from jail, and the Oakland County Sheriff’s Office is opening an investigation.

Sheriff’s deputies and paramedics responded to a potential overdose call in the Plum Ridge neighborhood on Oct. 26 at 8:36 p.m. When officers and paramedics arrived, they performed CPR on the man but he died at the scene.

The victim’s mother and step-brother informed detectives the man had been released from jail earlier that day and had potentially overdosed on prescription pills, which were prescribed to him. The victim had a history of prescription drug abuse, according to his family.

An autopsy was scheduled and investigators from the Oakland County Sheriff’s Office and the Oakland County Medical Examiner’s Office are investigating.
