Rochester Hills Trash Contract Goes To GFL Environmental

GFL Environmental replaces Republic as city's trash hauler.

ROCHESTER HILLS, MI — Rochester Hills has a new trash hauler. City Council recently voted unanimously to assign its contract with Republic Waste to GFL Environmental, USA Inc. The assignment, which was due to Republic's selling of its regional assets to GFL in Southeast Michigan, ends in 2019.

"The only change the residents should see is the color of the truck picking up their trash. The blue trucks will be replaced by new green trucks," said Rochester Hills Mayor Bryan K. Barnett. "Routes, pricing, and pick up days will remain the same."

A news release said city officials have studied the issue for several months and used a consulting firm, Ann Arbor-based Resource Recycling Services, to help make the selection. The City also reached out to neighboring communities serviced by GFL to learn about their experiences and received positive feedback.

"Our biggest priority in this transition was ensuring residents will receive the same, high quality garbage and recycling programs and service that they have come to expect," Barnett said in the release. "We look forward to working with GFL to continue to provide exceptional services and maintain our position as Michigan's #1 recycling community."
