Salvia, Bevacqua Win Rochester Council Seats

In Rochester Hills, Jenny McCardell edged incumbent Kevin S. Brown for a City Council seat.

Rochester City Council will have two new faces. Newcomer Nancy L. Salvia was the top vote-getter among six candidates vying for four council seats.

She walked away with 22.3 percent of the vote while fellow newcomer Dean Bevacqua was second with 20.94 percent. Incumbents Stuart Bikson and Ann Peterson will return to the council with 19.81 percent and 16.29 percent of the vote, respectively.

In Rochester Hills, incumbents Stephanie Morita and Jim Kubicina ran unopposed. In the city council’s at-large seat, Jenny McCardell edged incumbent Kevin S. Brown by a razor-thin 50.41 to 49.29 percent — a difference of just 39 votes, according to unofficial totals from Oakland County.

Newcomers Ryan Deel and Ryan Smith battled for the fourth Rochester Hills city council seat in the fourth district. Deel won with 64.21 percent of the vote to Smith’s 35.64 percent.

Rochester Hills voters were also asked to decide an Avondale School District bond proposal. The district was looking to borrow $30.7 million in general obligation bonds for school building additions, technology infrastructure, school buses and completing work on playgrounds.

Voters approved the measure with 64.51 voting “yes,” and just 35.49 percent voting “no."
