Water Main Break Leads To Boil Water Notice In SE Michigan
Great Lakes Water Authority officials found a leak in a water main and issued a boil water notice for 23 communities.

ROCHESTER HILLS, MI — Great Lakes Water Authority officials discovered a leak in a water main and have issued a boil water notice for 23 communities in the northern part of its service area, the agency announced Saturday morning.
Officials found a leak in a 120-inch water transmission main near the Lake Huron Treatment Facility early Saturday. The main, which is the largest in the regional distribution system, carries finished drinking water from the facility, according to the release.
A precautionary boil water advisory has been issued for the following communities: the Village of Almont, City of Auburn Hills, Bruce Township, Burtchville Township, Chesterfield Township, Clinton Township, City of Imlay City, Lenox Township, Macomb Township, Mayfield Township, Village of New Haven, Orion Township, City of Pontiac, City of Rochester, City of Rochester Hills, City of Romeo, Shelby Township, City of Sterling Heights, City of Troy, City of Utica, and Washington Township.

The agency recommends that residents in those areas bring all water to a boil for at least one minute before letting it cool and using it. Boiled or bottled water should be used for drinking, making ice, washing dishes, brushing teeth and preparing food under the notice, officials said.
Officials are working to isolate the leak and when that happens, the agency will begin opening emergency connections to other mains to restore more water flow to impacted areas.
