Beaumont Changes Name to Beaumont Health System

Beaumont Hospitals has a new corporate name to reflect the full range of inpatient, outpatient, community and home-based health care services that it offers. Effective immediately, Beaumont Hospitals will be known as Beaumont Health System.

“Over the past several years, Beaumont has grown into an integrated health system with the addition of a third hospital in Grosse Pointe, a network of outpatient centers throughout the region and the development of a medical school with Oakland University,” explains Gene Michalski, president and CEO. “Our growth in scope and reach, combined with the need for a systematic approach to patient care under health care reform, prompted us to propose a name change to our Board.”

Although the system’s umbrella name is changing to Beaumont Health System, the names of Beaumont’s individual hospitals and community-based medical centers will remain the same.

Beaumont tested a variety of potential names through internal and external market research before recommending the new name to its Board.

In addition to its three hospitals in Royal Oak, Troy and Grosse Pointe, Beaumont has numerous community-based outpatient medical centers in Macomb, Oakland and Wayne counties with physician offices, radiology, laboratory and rehabilitation services; two Family Medicine Centers; two ambulatory surgery centers; five nursing care centers; an assisted living facility; and in-home care services including nursing, infusion, medical equipment and hospice. A new Beaumont Health and Wellness Center opened in April in Rochester Hills, including Sola Life & Fitness, a medically-based fitness center, and rehabilitation, integrative medicine and pain services and physician offices.

“We offer the entire continuum of care that is required to be successful under health reform, with an integrated electronic health record that connects caregivers in the inpatient and outpatient settings,” says Michalski.

Beaumont is one of the nation’s highest volume health systems, with 94,199 inpatient admissions and almost 1.9 million outpatient visits in 2010. Beaumont has more than 3,700 physicians and is Oakland County’s largest employer with more than 14,000 full-time equivalent employees.
