New at the Zoo: Handimals Souvenir Artwork

"Hand made” takes on a new meaning at the Detroit Zoo with the introduction of Handimals, souvenir artwork created with a visitor’s handprint.

Handimals are made by pressing a painted handprint onto paper, which an artist then transforms into a whimsical animal illustration of the visitor’s choice. A zebra, lion or flamingo are just a few of the images that can be fashioned in about five minutes. Guests can create an illustration with every family member’s handprint to produce their own gaggle, herd or flock.

The Handimals station is located near the Ford Education Center and is open daily during regular Zoo hours. The cost is $15 per handprint; matting and framing are available for an additional charge.
