Royal Oak resident Peter Wurdock is the latest independent arts oriented person to utilize Kickstarter as a funding tool for his new book. Kickstarter began in 2009 as a new way to fund creative projects, like CD's films, books and more. Funding on Kickstarter is all-or-nothing. Each project must reach its funding goal in a per-determined time frame in order for the creator to receive any money. It's a risk, but it helps create momentum and rallying people around an idea.
“I’ve used small traditional publishers for my last 3 books,” Wurdock states.” They all served me well, but as my audience grows, I want to connect with more people and Kickstarter is helping me do that.”
Wurdock’s new book is titled: “Bending Water and Stories Nearby” and is a collection of Northern Michigan short stories. “Most of these stories take place in the UP, a place I love. Bending Water and Stories Nearby is about people who are living between the sorrows, challenges and joys that living brings. A dying hunter, a radio operator’s encounter with a ghost ship on Lake Superior, a message in a bottle, a distraught widow, a man returning home to discover a hidden family secret, two brother’s summertime adventure searching for gold and a man coming to terms with the death of his best friend while trout fishing are just some of the highlights in Bending Water and Stories Nearby.
