UPDATE: City Hall Closes Early Due to 'Unforeseen Circumstances'

UPDATE, 6:50 p.m.: Video published to YouTube by WROK shows the burst water pipe that closed Royal Oak City Hall earlier today causing water damage to the Human Resources Department and the elevator.

4:20 p.m.: Those looking to visit Royal Oak City Hall to take care of personal matters Monday afternoon were surprised by the presence of a sign at the front entrance indicating the building was "temporarily closed due to unforeseen circumstances."

The restricted access at the front entrance was due to a water leak at the stairway landing between the first and second floors.

The leak began at approximately 3:45 p.m. City Hall counters close at 4:30 p.m. No meetings are scheduled for this evening, according to the city's website.
