Custom T-Shirt Store Expands in Royal Oak

After five years in the screen printing and design business Deanna Nicholas, 40, decided to try something  a little different.

Six months ago, Nicholas opened a retail showroom at Edgemont Creative, located at 1204 E. 11 Mile Rd., where she sells unique T-shirts and a line of unisex track jackets that highlight various Detroit neighborhoods, including Corktown, Mexicantown and Eastern Market.

"We're still basically a screen printing shop, but we thought we would sell a few items and see how it goes," Nicholas said. Fleece jackets sell for $50 and T-shirts go for $20.

Ashley Fritsch, of Royal Oak, purchased several of Nicholas' T-shirts.

"Everyone loves it," she said of an orange T-shirt shirt with a once famous Corktown building on it. "I have never worn it anywhere without someone complimenting me."

Still, at the end of the day, the bread and butter of what Edgemont Creative does is screen printing. Nicholas boasts on her website she can expertly turn a napkin doodle into a high quality, innovative promotional product.

"We can bid 10,000 shirts or we can make one shirt," Nicholas said.
