Detroit Zoo Welcomes New African Lion
The newest addition comes two months after a beloved lion was moved to another zoo, officials said.

ROYAL OAK, MI — Two months after the Detroit Zoo bid farewell to a beloved lion, the zoo is welcoming a new African lion to its habitat, according to officials.
Kalu, a 9-year-old, 475 pound lion, arrived in November from the Tulsa Zoo, where he lived since 2018, according to officials.
Kalu joins lionesses Asha and Amirah, who have been at the zoo since 2019, according to officials.

"One Pride is everywhere, and the pride at the Detroit Zoo is growing too," the zoo said in a social media post. "He's ready to lead the pride at the Zoo, much like the Detroit Lions lead the charge on the field."
Two months age, Binti who was the first lion cub born at the Detroit Zoo in 40 years, was moved to another zoo to promote the health, genetic diversity and overall sustainability of lion populations in zoos, according to park officials.
