Fournier Leads Oliver In Race For Royal Oak Mayor

ROYAL OAK, MI — Royal Oak Mayor Michael Fournier was poised to win re-election Tuesday, according to unofficial vote totals.

Fournier had a sizable lead over Trish Oliver, a longtime Royal Oak resident, with 100 percent of precincts reporting, according to unofficial vote totals.

The winner will be elected to a two-year term.

  • Fournier: 9,426
  • Oliver: 6,512
  • Precincts reporting: 100 percent

Fournier, first elected in 2016, has said his campaign priorities include public safety, infrastructure upgrades and support for Royal Oak's neighborhoods. He plans to increase resources for first responders and social and mental health professionals, replace lead lines and update water infrastructure.

Oliver, a senior communications consultant for corporations and non-profit organizations, said she would largely focus on fiscal responsibility and protecting single-family homes.

Other key races

Voters in Royal Oak also decided three city commissioners seats.

Candidates running include Paul Bastian, David Buzynski, Woody Gontina, Brandon Kolo, Carolyn Martz, Eric Smethurst and Michael Willard (Write-in).

Kolo, Bastian and Gontina were ahead in that race with 100 percent of precincts reporting, according to unofficial vote totals.

Vote totals are unofficial until they are certified by county election officials, which can take up to 14 days.
